Calabrese

Calabrese

The grape Calabrese is best known as Nero d'Avola. The name “Calabrese” would suggest origins in Calabria, in reality it is a native grape of Sicily. The grape Calabrese is present in various appellations, in blends with other varieties or vinified on its own when it has the ability to give rise to wines of great structure and complexity, also suitable for long aging.

The Calabrese berry is black, medium, elliptical or oval with waxy skin of medium thickness, very resistant, bluish. The bunch is medium, conical, winged, often composed and medium compact with a large, orbicular, entire leaf and it has a regular and consistent production.

Vinified alone, the Calabrese gives structured wines, intense, harmonious and warm, with hints of plum and cherry, sometimes spicy.

Currently we do not stock any wine made with Calabrese but we suggest you to try those made with Nero d’ Avola
